Beginning Part-14

Revitz snarled and pushed the corporal into the heavy face of the closed doors, so he bounced off, nose first. The corporal wiped blood from his upper lip, and pushed the barricades wide.
After they were safely through, the sentries at their backs shut and locked the doors immediately. Though they had not yet penetrated the outer barriers into the open, the sounds of combat were much more fierce and bone jarring out here. They could see the flash of pyrotechnic displays and could feel the heat of the beams that discharged nearby. When Wethers paused at the final exit, Revitz slapped him on the back to urge him forward. The corporal shook his head and would not budge. So the lieutenant pushed the barrel of his weapon up against the man’s left kidney.
Very quietly and very nearby the man’s left ear, he said simply, “Move.”
But the corporal didn’t move. Instead, he backed up and rounded on his ranking officer.
“Fuck you, sir! This seems awfully stupid! And I don’t like stupid!” When Revitz
motioned with his weapon again, the corporal’s face pinched shut, and he shouted, “What are
you going to do? Shoot me?”
“That’s right. But not so you can’t do your job. I’ll just put one through your gut.
You’ll be ambulatory for a while, long enough to do what I want, then I’ll order an evac for you!
I’ll have your ass shipped back to a field hospital near Chimbay!”
