Caloric Deficit

A person needs to accumulate a caloric deficit of about 3,500 calories to lose a single pound of fat. To lose 5 pounds in one week, one would have to eliminate 17,500 calories, or 2,500 calories per day. Most people do not even eat 2,500 calories daily. If the weight loss is not fat, what is it? Numerous studies have looked into this and they always come back with the same answer: the early weight loss most diets bring is mostly water.
